Dietrich.tv - Gracinha (ENG)

The concept of a visual album is new, and therefore somewhat abstract. When Manu Gavassi showed me the script she had written for Gracinha, I thought the challenge was new and a little crazy. “Cool, so anything is possible?” I thought. I found that yes. It would be 8 music videos shot in less than 1 month, with stories interspersed. When I finally listened to the songs, I understood everything: that trip was going to work, and I was there to lead the process of turning a whirlwind of Manu's wonderful ideas into reality. An extraordinary mind of a creative, talented, courageous, generous, focused, intelligent, beautiful, and tasteful person... I had little time to plan in detail, but thanks to a team that believed in the process since the beginning, we embarked on this physical and spiritual journey to Ouro Preto, a city that carries an important and terrible history of colonial Brazil. We would film in various places, especially in the oldest theater in the Americas still in operation, The Opera House, which opened in 1770. My curiosity was aroused in a special way when I visited the locations. I studied about the city and managed to picture scenes we would do there, creating something new with Brazilian roots, telling Gracinha's story as a layer of fantasy suspended over the city's history, which touches reality without mixing with it. With photographer Nicholas Bluff, we made decisions that would place Gracinha in a special place in the convergence between art direction, styling, light, movement, and storytelling. "This story is real, although it doesn't seem like it." Gracinha would be located in the same imaginary place where fairy tales are, but more like the world as it is.
